Two stems or six: choose the right music separation

Compare outputs, workflow and equal duration pricing without confusing more stems with better quality.

By AIstemify Editorial · Product documentation & real examples

The short answer

Choose two stems for a vocal or accompaniment file. Choose six stems when your goal requires a separate drum, bass, piano or guitar part. More output files do not automatically mean better separation.

A concrete cost example

In AIstemify, a 3:20 recording costs three credits with either the two-stem or six-stem model. A 3:30 recording costs four. Pricing is based on duration, rather than multiplying the cost by six output files. Export choices are displayed in the task row.

The current one-time packs are $4.99 for 51 credits, $9.99 for 120, and $24.99 for 360. These totals already include the 50% bonus; do not add it again. Approximate processing minutes are subject to per-file rounding and the one-credit minimum.

Listen to the same input

The vocal and six-stem examples on our demo page use the same original synthetic mix. The two-stem model returns a combined instrumental; the six-stem model divides accompaniment into named categories. These are actual model outputs, not the synthesis program's clean source tracks. Listen to instrument attacks and quiet passages, including parts assigned to “other.”

This is a controlled demonstration of routing and export, not a quality ranking on human recordings. A real electric guitar or piano can behave differently from a synthesized tone.

Plan your edit

Download all useful parts before opening your DAW. Place them at the same start time, avoid independently changing their duration, and keep the original for reference. Muting the drum stem can make a practice backing track, but residual drums in other stems may remain.

You may prefer a two-stem output when it already meets your need: it is easier to manage and avoids unnecessary decisions. Use six stems when independent control is worth the extra listening and editing.

Before submitting

Files must be within the displayed 50 MB limit. The website shows the cost before submission and directs you to recharge if your balance is insufficient. Failed processing returns the charged task credits. Completed results are stored temporarily; the task list shows when downloads expire.
